The Call Of The Wild is my all time favorite book. Second is White fang, which kept me up at night as a child. I think everyone can relate to the primal urges that come with the need for survival, the love, and the heartbreak in this book. Jack London has a knack for writing stories that can cross cultures, translated into some 70 languages are his books. To me these books seems so quintessentially American as well. The rugged frontiersmen risking there life to deliver there payload, hunted by wolves and hauled by a pack of half wild dogs who are at each others throats constantly. And the previously domesticated Buck, learning the new laws of survival from the ground up. Thinking on your feet, pulling yourself up by your boot straps. That's American. But based on how many different languages this book has been translated to, that's not just America, it's the world.
